Bruce Copping - Database Administration Projects
- Currently database administrator (DBA) for Computer Sciences Corporation,
Mr. Copping has installed Oracle11g, Oracle10g, Oracle9i, and Oracle8i many times and has created
many Oracle databases, tablespaces, and all other objects necessary for properly built databases.
Primary responsibilites include performance tuning, database recovery, and problem resolution.
Database administration at CSC includes databases for the following applications: Deltek's financial system
Costpoint, plus other related smaller systems.
Primary tools used are scripts against the V$ tables and Savant's Diagnostic Center for performance tuning.
- As a database administrator for MCI, responsibilities included the administration of several
very large ADABAS databases in a large systems environment. There were approximately 50 database
"instances" running at all times, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Databases divided into more than 7
distributed regions were supported and complete new databases were created by Mr. Copping. On-call duties, also around-the-clock, included the restarting of databases which had ended abnormally, daily on-line database backups which had failed to finish to completion, and restoration of databases as necessary.
- A final responsibility at MCI was his team leadership of an advanced problem support group newly created and staffed to handle various system problems called into the Technical Services center. The areas for problem determination/solving included DB2, ADABAS, and IMS databases, on-line support
(CICS), MVS and VTAM support, and disk storage management.
- Mr. Copping was a database administrator at George Washington University before joining MCI. His responsibilities
included the maintenance of a medium-sized database environment and he served as a
technical resource for the development staff as well.
